Dover Straits AIS

Automated Identification System (AIS) enables the tracking of ships movements. The system is very similar to that of an aircraft transponder broadcasting the ships identity, position, course, speed and destination. These messages can be picked up by shore stations and as these messages are broadcast at regular intervals it enables a ships position to be plotted on a map.

Thanks to the people at marinetraffic.com we are now able to offer an overview from the Port of Dover showing the ferry movements and the numerous commercial movements through the Dover Straits.

Vessel positions may be up to one hour old or incomplete. Data is provided for informational reasons only and is not related by any means to the safety of navigation. All AIS data is provided by www.marinetraffic.com and we are not responsible for its content.
